Once we went in our seperate groups, I felt so much better; I was home; I was with my family consisting of 5 moms, 5 dads, and 5+ siblings.. if you know what I mean. Freshman and Coach Lewman went up on stage and gave how they did. Then JV.. Then Varsity. Logan got a billion awards, along with Cap, Garrett, Tate, and Tanner. Coach K introduced the managers next and I got nervous because my hands were clammy and he was expecting that lol. Garrett's were really bad though because he said he was sweaty lol.
We sat down and then the speeches started. I guess Logan asked the order of how the seniors were going to give their speech. He simple said that there was no specific order but he believed that ladies go first... of course I'm the only girl on the team, so it was me lol.
I walked up there, got my speech out which seemed like it took forever b/c I was shaking like a loose leaf, and then apologized if my voice sounded shaky. This is the speech I gave... or what I think I said anyway:
62 practices, 22 Varsity games, and roughly 64 louds of laundry later, I stand before you proud as ever. I'm glad JV and Varisty made a winning season, and managers didn't fall apart. Kevin, Kep, and I made sure practices and games run smoothly so Coach K and Coach Glaze don't have to worry about behind the scenes.
I want to thank my mom for being there and letting me join this program knowing I had full intentions of being Coach K's best manager since Lucas Dargo. (Mom was crying at this point) To my family and friends for being the greatest support system. Thanks to Keller for letting me join even though bowling conflicted. Sorry... but I do have to graduate. Thanks Coach Reade for helping so much, and making me laugh when I was stressed. Thanks to all the coaching staff, Kevin and Kepler for all their hardwork. And I just want to say congrats to ason Scott. He was a manager last year, and he couldn't play because of health issues so nice job on that. (I looked over... he was smiling =) ) Thanks Bball Moms for all their time and effort and Sheila for the snacks and being our number one fan. Last but not least, a huge thanks to Misty. (I started crying at this point lol) She has helped me and encouraged me to be a stronger and a more confident person. Varsity, you have had a huge impact on my time this season. I hope you canremember to do stuff, Logan, without me there. (everyone laughed and he had the biggest smile on his face!) Tanner, I'm so proud of the basketball player you have become. And to Smed, even with your knee injury and your infected eye... (everyone laughed and I looked to see him smile) you never gave up and pulled it together. I wish all of you the best of luck, and I will definately miss all of you.
I was done.. Huge applause and I held in the tears. Coach went up and said something about... that you can really tell that I care about this. I think the almost crying gave it away.
The rest of the speeches were so amazing! I loved every minute of it. Rene cried through all of them, and I kinda did too lol.
Today, I got a ton of praise from Corbin in newspaper, Jaylin and Logan when they cut me in the lunch line!, Jakey B in 5th.. he said it was one of the better ones (even though all of them were good) he said I sounded like I was going to cry and I told him I kinda did lol (Jaylin said the same) and Benbow after school... all of them could tell I was about to cry lol!
Now that I vented about all of this, I feel a million times better. =)
There is one thing I regret though.... I wish I would have let everyone know that... being a manager really is one of my passions. Taking care of the guys isn't just a responsibility; it's something I love to do. These guys welcomed me into their program willingly, respectfully, and hey... there is no doubt in mind that without me there, a lot couldn't have happened and I know they don't think less of me. I love all of these guys more than people realize.
So... to the future managers and players, lets remember:
- If Tanner Wehlage plays ball in college, make sure he gets his own towel. =)
- Give Jakey B his XLs, and let Cap have his chance at 'em.
- Hang the jerseys in number order... trust me, it's a million times easier.
- Don't let Logan forget anything.
- Wear your polo, khakis, and dress shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Don't make a mess in Mistys room, never ask "Do you have a Band-Aid?", and don't make a mess in her room.
- Give the guys their food after practice otherwise they'll get very cranky.
- Don't ever give up on the sport; continue... it's worth it in the end.
- Love. Communicate. Bond.
